100% organic cotton and non-toxic fabric

We exclusively use USDA certified organic cotton. 100% of our fabrics are pure organic cotton with zero synthetic fiber blends. Our fabrics are naturally soft, breathable and safe for sensitive skin. We don't need performance chemicals to manufacture what nature already provides.

Our fabrics are non-toxic and free of PFAS, perfumes, formaldehyde, flame retardants, phthalates, heavy metals, chlorine bleach, VOCs or other dangerous substances commonly found in clothing. All of our designs are available in dye-free and bleach-free natural cotton.

Made in America from seed to stitch

US Organic Cotton Farms: All of our cotton is 100% USDA certified organic and is grown without GMOs, synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers in California, Texas and New Mexico.

American Heritage Mills: The raw cotton is spun and knit into premium fabrics by American heritage mills across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.

San Francisco Bay Area Sewing Community: All of our clothing is cut and sewn by five independent, family-owned factories in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville, all within 15 miles of our Berkeley studio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Harvest & Mill clothing really made 100% in the USA from cotton field to finished garment?

Yes! Since 2012, every garment Harvest & Mill makes is crafted from seed to stitch through our 100% USA domestic and traceable supply chain. Our clothing is always organically grown in California, Texas and New Mexico, spun, knit and milled in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama and designed and sewn in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is increasingly rare. According to industry data, only about 2% of clothing sold in the US today is actually made domestically, down from 95% in 1960. By making clothing this way, we are empowering local communities and supporting small businesses across America.

What's the difference between organic cotton and conventional cotton and is organic cotton actually better?

Our USDA certified organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or GMO seed, keeping those harmful substances out of local American communities while also ensuring we are not pollution dumping in other countries. Conventional cotton, by contrast, is one of the most chemically intensive crops in the world. According to data from the Environmental Justice Foundation, conventional cotton covers just 2.4% of the world's farmland but accounts for 6% of global pesticide use and 16% of insecticide use. In the US alone, conventional cotton is treated with 98 different pesticides, ten of which contain PFAS, the "forever chemicals" linked to cancer and hormone disruption. Harvest & Mill's organic cotton comes exclusively from small, family-owned, USDA-certified organic farms in California, Texas and New Mexico. Our partner farms use regenerative practices such as cover cropping, integrated pest management and crop rotation to build healthier soil instead of depleting it, while keeping toxic chemicals out of our local natural resources.

Is organic cotton non-toxic and safe for sensitive skin?

Yes! All Harvest & Mill fabrics are 100% organic cotton with no synthetic blends and are never treated with toxic finishing chemicals. No PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as "forever chemicals"). No performance finishes. No stain resistance chemicals. No waterproofing or DWR (durable water repellent) coatings. No moisture-wicking hydrophilic polymers. No antimicrobial or anti-odor treatments (silver-ion or zinc-based). No formaldehyde resins, wrinkle-free or anti-shrink treatments. No mercerization. No flame retardants. No heavy metals. No perfumes. No phthalates or plastisol. No endocrine-disrupting chemical finishes. No microplastics. Zero synthetic fiber content. Zero plastic fabric content. Our organic cotton fabrics are ideal for low toxicity and sustainable lifestyles and for people who want to avoid microplastics and synthetic fabrics.

How do I care for organic cotton?

We recommend washing cold and tumble low or hang dry because this is the lowest impact method for the clothing and the environment. The more gentle you are with your clothing, the longer it will last. Organic cotton gets softer over time. Harvest & Mill clothing is designed to be well loved.
