Our Promise

Harvest & Mill only uses organic cotton that is grown in the USA and is USDA certified organic. Organic cotton keeps significant amounts of toxic pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and soil chemicals out our of natural resources. By supporting American organic cotton farmers, we are helping to keep our soil, water and air clean while making sure we don't offshore pollution to other countries.

The Numbers

• 96% of all conventional cotton planted in the United States is genetically modified.

• Seven of the top ten pesticides used on conventional US cotton meet the United Nations Highly Hazardous Pesticides criteria, six are classified as known, probable, or possible carcinogens, and four are endocrine disruptors.

• Just 2.4% of the world's arable land is planted with cotton yet conventional cotton accounts for 16% of the world's insecticide market and 6% of the sale of global pesticides, making it one of the most chemical intensive crops grown on the planet.

Cotton Farming

Cotton fiber is extremely absorbent. When agro-chemicals are sprayed on cotton plants, the cotton fibers absorb and retain those compounds.

Agro-chemicals leach into the water and soil, contaminating our drinking water and ecosystems. Agriculture is the largest polluter of water in the world and these toxic compounds cannot be completely filtered out.

Farmworkers and farmlands have concentrated exposure to these chemicals.
